'I didn't sleep': Abbie Chatfield's nerves as she hits the airwaves for KIIS breakfast and spills relationship details

Abbie Chatfield hit the airwaves for the first time on Monday morning, co-hosting the KIIS breakfast show alongside Mike E. 

The 30-year-old, who is the latest fill-in for the now defunct Kyle and Jackie O Show, admitted she was nervous as she made her appearance just after 7am, revealing she "barely slept last night". 

"I didn't sleep. I was getting up every hour checking my phone thinking I'd miss my alarm," she told Mike E and newsreader Brooklyn Ross. 

Chatfield joked she was terrified "I'd get a call from someone scary KIIS FM person" yelling at her for not showing up. 

"But I made it," she said with relief. 

Radio is nothing new for the reality star turned podcast host, who also opened up about how busy life is right now and spilled on how she's managing long-distance with her musician boyfriend Adam Hyde. 

"Beautiful Adam is finishing writing music, he's touring America and I'm at home here with you," she told the hosts.

She explained that he's away for three weeks, which is actually the longest they've ever had apart in their two-and-a-half year relationship. 

"I was sobbing when he left, but it's actually been kind of OK," she said. 

Mike E was surprised that this was the longest they've been apart, although Ross said it's similar for him and his partner. 

"Well, because he's working so hard, I'm here working so hard, I'm writing my book so I can fully concentrate because when he's home I'm like a naughty kid," she explained.

"I don't do work."

She explained it's just hard because he's "so hot, cool and funny" but now he's away she can concentrate on actual work.

Despite doing long-distance, she admitted that they're not really doing the FaceTime thing because of the time difference. 

"We're just kind of... texting," she explained. 

"The FaceTiming, he wants to put in some quality FaceTiming time, but the issue is the difference of the time zone. So I go let's just text voice notes, videos are nice back and forth, when we can find lulls in our day."

The move for Chatfield to fill in on the coveted breakfast slot came as a surprise to many, following her very public falling out with Kyle Sandilands.

Sandilands, the former KIIS breakfast host, made comments about about her in a radio segment with rapper Yung Gravy and Brittany Hockley in 2022.

"I have a bit of a relationship beginning with Abbie Chatfield," Yung Gravy said on air.

Sandilands replied, "oh Jesus, you and everyone else, line up my friend, line up".

He then made further comments implying Chatfield had sent nude photos of herself to several people.

Chatfield addressed the comments on her podcast, It's A Lot.

"It was quite f--ked and it really upset me," she said at the time.

"The issue that people like Kyle and Brittany have with me is that I'm able to speak about sexuality in a way that isn't shameful, and they think that that must equate to f--king around every single day and having sex every single day.

"Actually, it's just that I don't have the shame that they have and therefore they're projecting it on to me."

Hockley later apologised to Chatfield in an Instagram post, however, it wasn't until 2024 that she got an apology from Sandilands.

The apology finally came when Hyde made an appearance on the former Kyle and Jackie O Show, which led to them calling her live on air.

Both Sandilands and Henderson issued apologies to Chatfield.

Chatfield is the most recent guest host of the breakfast program, which has been cycling through radio host until it finds a permanent replacement for The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

The show was pulled off the air after a now-infamous argument between the hosts on February 20. 

Both former radio hosts are suing ARN for wrongful termination in two blockbuster legal claims worth a combined $167 million.
