Ne-Yo reveals how his polyamorous relationship with three women works: 'Everybody's happy'

American singer Ne-Yo has lifted the lid on how his polyamorous relationship with three women works.

The So Sick hitmaker, who often shares tidbits of his love life on Instagram with his 4.7 million followers, appeared on Sherri this week and was quizzed about his personal life.

Ne-Yo, 46, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, has three girlfriends and said it's all about "partnership," not "ownership".

On how the lifestyle choice came to be, the singer explained how he never wanted to lie to another woman again following his public divorce.

So instead of being unfaithful, he decided to have a conversation with his longest-standing girlfriend about possibly expanding the relationship.

"...One of the three I've been with a little longer than the other one. So, I basically went to her and said, 'Listen, you know, I rock with you. You know I love you, but I have to be honest with you. It's not just you,'" he said.

"'I would love for you to meet these other women, and if we can figure out a way to do something together, cool. If not, that's cool, too.'

"I let her decide. I let them choose. Everybody chose to stick around.

"The main understanding is I'm not in three relationships. I'm in one relationship with three people."

He did however, say that Valentine's Day can get tricky and he makes sure to buy them all a gift each.

However, they do all celebrate together.

"Everybody's happy," he said.

Interestingly, he clarified that the girls can't date other men, adding: "They gave me their exclusivity."

He previously revealed he had four girlfriends, but it seems one has left the group.

In a video shared last year on Instagram, he wrote: "Since the world is so intrigued, I guess I should introduce my loves properly."

"LADIES AND GENTS I PRESENT MY PYRAMID."

"Say something nice or move on with your life. We're happy over here," he added in his post.

The Grammy Award winner is known for hits including So Sick, Miss Independent and Closer and rose to fame in the early 2000s.
