'Not something to whisper about or judge': Meghan Trainor opens up about opting for surrogacy

Meghan Trainor has shed further light on her decision to work with a surrogate when having her third child.
Speaking with PEOPLE, the pop powerhouse expanded on previous comments made when first announcing the birth of her baby daughter.
Trainor, who has been married to Spy Kids alum Daryl Sabara since 2018, revealed the move "wasn't their first choice" – but had been a necessary one.
"We had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family," Trainor told PEOPLE.
She went on to delve into the stigma associated with surrogacy – and the judgement parents face when opting to explore that route.
The All About that Base singer said while every family's pregnancy journey looks different, all remain "extremely valid."
"[Surrogacy] is not something to whisper about or judge. It's rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork,"

She said she wanted people to know that the option, which she and Sabara are both "forever grateful" for, was an equally beautiful way to build a family as the mother carrying in-utero.
Trainor was also quick to give credit where credit was due, going on to sing the praises of she and Sabara's surrogate, whom they've both chosen to keep anonymous thus far.
The star described her experience with said surrogate as "incredible," labelling her as "one of the most selfless, strong and loving people I've ever met."
"We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I'll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter."

The songstress recently announced the birth of her family's newest addition, Mikey Moon Trainor, through a series of heart-melting photos posted to Instagram.
"We are over the moon in love with this precious girl," she captioned the post.
Trainor then revealed she'd allowed her other two children – who are two and four years old – to play a small but sweet part in Mikey Moon's naming process.
"Riley and Barry have been so excited, they even got to choose her middle name."
The star opted to carry her first two children herself before pivoting to surrogacy for her third child.
