Old Hollywood glamour: Iconic throwback photos from the Golden Globes

From stunning fashion to eyebrow-raising speeches, the Golden Globe Awards have brought us memorable celebrity moments for more than eight decades.

The annual event, a creation of the then-Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association, dates back to 1944.

Rather than a gold statuette, they were awarded scrolls – but the famous globe-inspired gong was introduced the following year following a design contest.

While the event has gone through plenty of changes in the decades since, one thing remains consistent: it's a seriously star-studded affair.

Long before the likes of Emma Stone and Timothee Chalamet were turning heads on the red carpet, the guest list was filled with Hollywood royalty like Marilyn Monroe and Paul Newman.

With the 83rd Golden Globes approaching on Sunday, January 11 (Monday in Australia), what better excuse to take a look back at some gorgeous throwbacks from the early days of the event?
