Supergirl star Milly Alcock went from washing dishes in Sydney restaurant to global stardom

Milly Alcock went from washing dishes in a Sydney restaurant to starring in one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

The Aussie actress is the star of DC's upcoming Supergirl movie, but she revealed in a recent interview with Variety that her life wasn't always glamorous.

Alcock, 26, began by saying that when she starred in the Australian TV series Upright at 18, she was still living in her family home.

She was also working in a popular Sydney restaurant at the time as a dishwasher.

"I was a stick of a thing. I was washing these dishes so proudly and so terribly, and it was an open kitchen, so everyone could see me."

Following her stint on the Aussie comedy, she snagged her breakout role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.

Now, she's landed the role of a lifetime, playing Supergirl in the upcoming Craig Gillespie blockbuster.

"I am so excited for all the young women who are going to see this," she told Variety of the upcoming film.

She added that she's "trying not to engage" with the online trolls who have already begun making sexist comments against the female superhero.

The film stars other major celebrities including, Jason Momoa, Eva Ridley and David Corenswet.

Alcock's casting in the film was announced by Co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, more than two years ago.

"Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl."
