"Farewell to the iconic Monty Maizels, who has passed away at the age of 102 and 3/4 years of age," the tribute began.

"We know him best from our time making The Castle, where he played 'Jack', but he was a broadcaster, a producer, composer, writer, actor and so much more...

"Sending our love to Monty's family and friends."

Fans of the late actor then took to the comments to share their own tributes, with one speaking of the "big impact" he'd had on them.

"Him telling me about the first time he heard tape after recording on metal discs. Being active in his 90's. What an inspiration!"

"RIP Monty. My favourite person from "The Castle". We often quote his simple but cathartic line," another commented.

The Castle remains one of the most quotable films of all time, owing in part to the contributions of Maizels-as-Jack.

In the 1997 comedy, Maizels played the central Kerrigan family's elderly neighbour, who utters an iconic line in the script.

When developers threaten the home of lead character Darryl Kerrigan (played by Michael Caton), Jack breaks his gentle demeanour to utter the line "Yeah, f--k 'em!"

Monty's son John Maizels also wrote a moving to his father via Broadcast website Radio Info, recalling his extensive work across radio and the wider media landscape in Australia.

"While Monty always displayed exceptionally broad interests and capabilities, nobody ever doubted that his first love, and key skill, was language and words.

"He had three major loves in his life: music, words, and Frances – his wife of over 60 years."
