Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's eldest son Maddox drops Pitt from surname

The eldest son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has reportedly followed in the footsteps of his siblings by dropping 'Pitt' from his surname.

Maddox, who was known as Maddox Jolie-Pitt since Pitt adopted him in 2006, is the latest of the former couple's six children to distance themselves from the actor.

People reports Maddox, 24, was referred to as Maddox Jolie in the movie credits of his mother's new film, Couture, when it debuted in French movie theatres recently.

Maddox is listed as a third assistant director on the film, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.

People is now reporting his name was listed as Maddox Jolie in the credits on that occasion, but the name change appeared to go unnoticed at the time.

Maddox previously worked as an assistant to the director on another of his mother's films Maria, in which she portrayed opera singer Maria Callas.

He was credited in the 2024 film as Maddox Jolie-Pitt, which is how he is listed on the internet movie database IMDb.

Maddox is the eldest child of the celebrity couple, who first met in 2004 on the set of the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston

By the time the film was released in 2005, Pitt had left Aniston to be with Jolie, who had adopted Maddox from a Cambodian orphanage in 2002, when he was seven months old.

She went on to adopt daughter Zahara, from an Ethiopian orphanage in 2005.

They went on to welcome four more children: Shiloh, who was born to the couple in May 2006; Pax, whom Jolie adopted in 2007 from Vietnam before Pitt formally adopted him a year later; and twins Vivienne and Knox, who were born in France in 2008.

The couple married in 2014 at their French chateau, before separating in 2016 following an incident on a private jet as it was ferrying the family from Europe to the US.

Their divorce was finalised in December 2024, following disputes over custody of the children and property, including the French chateau.

In the years that have followed, almost all of the children have distanced themselves from their father.

Pax was first, taking to social media in 2020 with a scorching post on Instagram to mark Father's Day in the US, in which he referred to Pitt as a "world-class a---hole" and a "despicable human being".Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Maddox Jolie-Pitt

He also claimed Pitt's four youngest children "tremble in fear when in your presence".

Meanwhile, in November 2023, a video emerged of Zahara's induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College, where she identified herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie".

While it is not known if she has changed her name legally, her sister Shiloh did, filing a petition with an LA court to drop Pitt from her name when she turned 18 in May 2024.

The name change was officially approved later that year.

Vivienne, 17, also dropped Pitt from her surname in a playbill for The Outsiders.

All of the children are now reportedly estranged from their dad, who is expected to lose any remaining custody rights when Vivienne and Knox turn 18 in July.

Jolie is reportedly counting down the days until then, and is eyeing a move away from the US and LA, where she has been based due to custody arrangments.

In 2025, People quoted a source who said Jolie "never wanted to live in LA full-time" but "didn't have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad".

The source said Jolie "plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year".
