Everything we know about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's six kids as the youngest prepare to turn 18

They are the offspring of two of Hollywood's most famous stars.

When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie fell in love in 2004 on the set of their film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston, they became the world's most famous couple.

Soon, their life with their six children – three adopted and three biological – became fodder for the press.

Now, almost two years after their parents' divorce was finalised, and on the eve of the two youngest children turning 18, let's look at everything we know about the Jolie-Pitt brood.

Maddox

Jolie adopted Maddox from a Cambodian orphanage in 2002, when he was seven months old.

She started the adoption process while married to second husband Billy Bob Thornton, but after their relationship abruptly ended, she went ahead alone.

Jolie had met Maddox in a Cambodian orphanage while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and felt an immediate connection to him.

Rumours first emerged that Maddox had a strained relationship with Pitt following the alleged altercation on a private plane in 2016 that resulted in Jolie filing for divorce.

Maddox took an interest in his parents' careers early on, and appeared as a zombie in his dad's 2013 movie World War Z.

Not long later, he became an executive producer at just 15 when he worked the film adaptation of a book about the Cambodian genocide.

In 2019, Maddox moved to South Korea to attend college, studying biochemistry at Seoul's Yonsei University.

When a paparazzi asked if his father would come visit him in Seoul, Maddox replied: "I don't know about that".

During a 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jolie revealed Maddox was a qualified pilot, like his mum.

He also followed in his mother's footsteps by taking an interest in politics, attending a state dinner in April 2023 in South Korea alongside US President Joe Biden.

In 2024, Maddox returned to filmmaking, working as an assistant to the director on Maria, in which his mother portrayed opera singer Maria Callas.

Zahara

Jolie adopted daughter Zahara from an Ethiopian orphanage in 2005 when she was seven months old.

She said Maddox had wanted an African brother or sister and they were touring an orphanage when he noticed Zahara, who "needed care".

In January 2006, Pitt legally adopted Zahara along with Maddox, and their last names were legally changed to Jolie-Pitt.

Zahara's birth mother reportedly abandoned her when she developed health issues as an infant.

These health challenges came back to haunt her later, with Angelina writing in a 2020 essay for TIME, that two of her daughters had "medical challenges".Brad Pitt with Zahara Jolie-Pitt in New York City in August 2007. "I have spent the last two months in and out of surgeries with my eldest daughter," Jolie wrote.

Pitt reportedly missed that year's BAFTAs, where he was nominated, to be with his daughter.

When Zahara went off to the prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta in 2022, which is described as an "historically Black liberal arts college for women", her proud mum made the revelation on social media.

"Zahara with her Spelman sisters!" the actress captioned the photo.

"Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honour to have a family member as a new Spelman girl."

Zahara had a small voice as the voice of Meng Meng in the 2016 film Kung Fu Panda 3, which starred her mum as Tigress.https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgrw32FuiUN/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

When she was 14, she teamed up with jeweller Robert Procop to create the Zahara Collection jewellery line, and wore her earrings, bracelets and a ring on the red carpet for one of the premieres of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

All proceeds from sales went to shelters for victims of domestic violence.

In December 2022, she accompanied her mum on a two-day visit to Washington DC where they advocated for the protection of victims of crime.

The previous year, she joined her mother for discussions with advocates and politicians to support the Violence Against Women Act.

Pitt last spoke directly about Zahara in August 2022, when he was asked about her attendance at Spelman College while at the premiere of his film Bullet Train.

"I'm so proud of her. She's so smart. She's going to flourish even more at college," he said.Angelina Jolie and daughter Zahara at the UK Premiere of

However, it soon became clear the fallout from her parents' split had affected her relationship with her father.

In November 2023, a video emerged of Zahara's induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College where she identified herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie".

The two are said to now be completely estranged.

Shiloh

The first of the couple's three bioligical children, Shiloh, was born in Namibia in May 2006.

Her birth made headlines around the world and she was pictured on the cover of People magazine.

The first photos of Shiloh were bought by People for AU $5.8 million, and she became the first-ever infant to be immortalised in wax by Madame Tussauds.

However, her mother's comments on her first biological child also made headlines, after she described her as a 'blob' and said she felt more for her adopted children, who had overcome obstacles.

Shiloh was a baby when she appeared alongside her dad in his 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

She was then offered the chance to play a young Aurora in her mother's 2014 film Maleficent, but turned it down.

"I asked Shiloh about being Aurora and she laughed in my face," Jolie told Elle, "she said she'd be a horned creature."

However, Shiloh did voice the charcter Shuai Shuai in Kung Fu Panda 3.Brad Pitt with Shiloh in 2009.

As Shiloh grew, interest in her intensified, especially after photos emerged of her dressed in 'boys' clothing and with her hair cut short.

Her parents addressed the issue with Jolie telling Vanity Fair in 2010 that Shiloh "wanted to be a boy" from a young age.

"So we had to cut her hair," she said.

"She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."

Pitt told Oprah in 2008: "She only wants to be called John. John or Peter."

In March 2020, Jolie revealed in her TIME piece that Shiloh had gone "under the knife for a hip surgery".Brad Pitt with Shiloh in 2014.Shiloh Jolie-Pitt shows off her dance moves during class at LA's Millenium Dance Complex.

But it did not hold her back, with Shiloh making headlines in 2022 when the then 16-year-old was spotted in dance videos fimed at LA dance studio Millenium Dance Complex.

A video of Shiloh dancing to Doja Cat's hit song Vegas soon went viral.

Pitt became emotional when asked about her dance moves by Entertainment Tonight in August 2022.

He said her talent "brings a tear to the eye".

"It's very beautiful," he said.

But the father and daughter appear to be estranged.

It was revealed Shiloh filed a petition with an LA court to drop Pitt from her name when she turned 18 in May 2024.

The name change was officially approved later that year.

The move reportedly left Pitt heartbroken, with a source telling People, "The reminders that he's lost his children [are] not easy for Brad.

"He loves his children and misses them. It's very sad."

He was also said to be heartbroken that the estrangement extended to his parents, including his mother Jane, who died in 2025, having not seen his children for a decade. Brad Pitt has not been photographed with his daughter Shiloh since the premiere of the film Unbroken

Pax

Pax was born in Vietnam in 2003. He spent his first three years in an orphanage outside of Ho Chi Minh City.

As Vietnamese regulations did not favour unmarried couples adopting children, Jolie adopted him alone in 2007, before Pitt formally adopted him a year later.

At the time, Jolie told MSN Pax was a "tough, remarkable little person".

"He spent three and a half years of his life in one place, in one room, in this one little iron bed with 20 other kids, and having no choice for himself to do things, having no freedom," she said.

"And suddenly, here he is in a very free situation with new brothers and sisters and a mum and dad.Angelina Jolie and son Pax in 2007.

"He's learning English and he's so loving and he's wild and free 'cause he suddenly has freedom."

Jolie told the Financial Times in 2011 the family visits the children's birthplaces together and were due to go to Vietnam.

Like Maddox, Pax has expressed interest in his parents' career.

He made a cameo in Jolie's 2014 film Maleficent and voiced the character Yoo in 2016's Kung Fu Panda 3.

He also worked as a still photographer on his mother's 2017's film First They Killed My Father, and as a production assistant on her 2024 film Maria.

Despite this, Jolie told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour Pax was more likely to follow a career in music.Brad Pitt opens up on his troubles post-divorce

"Pax loves music and deejaying," she said.

Pax has been the most vocal about the fraught relationships between Pitt and his children.

He took to social media in 2020 with a scorching post on Instagram to mark Father's Day in the US.

In the post, which resurfaced in Pax referred to his dad as a "world-class a---hole" and a "despicable human being".

"Happy Father's Day to this world class a---hole!" he wrote.

"You time and time again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person.

"You have no consideration or empathy toward your four youngest children who tremble in fear when in your presence.

"You will never understand the damage you have done to my family because you're incapable of doing so."

In July 2024, Pax was hospitalised following an e-bike accident in LA.

TMZ reported Pax was not wearing a helmet and was transported to a nearby hospital to treat a head injury and hip pain.

A source later told People he was treated in intensive care and that Jolie was "deeply grateful for the quick and life-saving action of first responders, and the outstanding medical care he received" for "complex trauma".

While his mother and siblings were by his side, a source told People that Pitt was "getting updates" on Pax's condition, despite the fact that were estranged.

"He hasn't had any contact with Pax in years, but he still very much cares," the source said.

In 2024, Jolie opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about working with him on Maria.

"Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and [director] Pablo was wonderful and recognised that he was good at it," she said.

In January 2026, Pax made a surprise appearance at the Sundance Film Festival, which could be a sign he is keen to reignite his career.

Vivienne

Angelina Jolie and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt

Vivienne and her twin brother Knox were born in Nice, France in 2008.

Interest in the pair was so great, their first photos sold for about $AU20 million, which was donated to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

They remain the most expensive celebrity photos in history.

Vivienne got her start in the entertainment world in 2014 when she played a younger version of Aurora in the film Maleficent, alongside her mother.

Jolie said they had no choice but cast her daughter because other children were too scared to film with her in character.

"The other three- and four-year-old [performers] wouldn't come near me," Jolie told Entertainment Weekly at the time.Vivienne Jolie-Pitt got her start in the entertainment world in 2014 when she played a younger version of Aurora in the film Maleficent alongside her mother Angelina Jolie.

"It had to be a child that liked me and wasn't afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."

She also revealed Vivienne showed talent.

"I was actually shocked that she was doing so well she went back and hit her mark! It's frightening," Jolie said.

Over the years, Vivienne made a number of red carpet appearances with her mother, most notably at the Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil premiere in 2019 and The Eternals premieres in London and Los Angeles in 2021.

Vivienne also accompanied Jolie to the premiere of The Outsiders, which she had a hand in producing, when it enjoyed a Tony Award-winning run on Broadway in 2024.

But it was the fact Vivienne dropped the "Pitt" and was credited as "Vivienne Jolie" when she was credited on the playbill as a producer's assistant that got tongues wagging.

Also raising eyebrows was the fact Jolie and her daughter got matching tattoos, despite the fact her daughter was just 16 at the time.

During an interview with CR Fashion Book in September 2024, Jolie revealed she and Vivienne got the tattoos to honour working together.

"It means so much to us separately and together," she said, revealing they chose the phrase "Stay Gold" – a reference to both a song title and the dying words of character Johnny Cade to Ponyboy.

Knox

Knox was born about one minute before his twin sister.

Like her, he has one acting credit to his name, having voiced the character Ku Ku in the 2016 film Kung Fu Panda 3.Brad Pitt with son Knox Jolie-Pitt in January 2009.Angelina Jolie with children Knox Leon Jolie-Pitt, Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt and Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt

Growing up, Knox at times joined his parents on the red carpet, and in particular his mother and siblings.

Knox is thought to have little contact with his father, even though at 17, he and his twin are still the subject of custody orders.

Knox has the lowest profile of the couple's six children.

Who has custody of Brangelina's kids?

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and requested physical custody of all six kids.

In late 2018, a new arrangement was established which would see them share physical and legal custody.

After their divorce was finalised in mid-2019, the pair were reportedly co-parenting, with Brad seen visiting Jolie's home during the COVID pandemic.

However, as each became adults, they have set their own terms, with all but the youngest now said to be completely estranged from Pitt.

When Vivienne and Knox turn 18 in July, it is believed all custody arrangements will end. According to reports in February 2026, Jolie is counting down the days so she can leave the country.

In 2025, People quoted a source who said Jolie "never wanted to live in LA full-time" but "didn't have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad".

The source said Jolie "plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year".
