Boston lead singer Tommy DeCarlo dies aged 60

Tommy DeCarlo, the lead singer of iconic rock band Boston, has died. He was 60.

DeCarlo's family shared the news of his passing in a Facebook post on Tuesday, confirming the rock legend died after a battle with brain cancer.

He passed away on March 9, the post said.Lead singer of the rock band Boston, Tommy DeCarlo, has died aged 60.

"After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end," the statement read.

"During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family's privacy as we grieve and support one another.

"Rest in peace, Dad. With love, Annie, Talia & Tommy Jr."

A GoFundMe set up to help pay for DeCarlo's medical expenses explained that the rockstar suffered a brain bleed in September last year.

After going in for surgery, doctors found two cancerous masses on his brain and a third spot on his lung.

"He amazed us by recovering from the surgery and beginning treatment, but before he could complete it, he had another brain bleed and was hospitalised from November 27th to December 27th," the fundraiser read.

"Since then, he has completed acute inpatient therapy and is currently back on track with treatments from his oncology team.

"Our Dad is strong. He is a fighter. "We've created a GoFundMe to help support his needs and the challenges ahead. He is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support he's already received from friends, family, and fans all over the world.

"It has lifted him up during the hardest moments and reminded him he's not fighting alone."

DeCarlo joined the band Boston after their original lead singer, Brad Delp, died in 2007.

DeCarlo was a huge fan of the group before he got the chance to front them.

The group's most popular tracks included More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Don't Look Back, Amanda and Rock & Roll Band.

DeCarlo played alongside current band members, guitar player Gary Phil, bassist Tracy Ferrie, drummer Jeff Neal and singer Beth Cohen.

The singer released an audiobook in 2021 called The Unlikely Rockstar, which talked about his life and his time in the band.

He is survived by his wife, Annie, and children Talia and Tommy Jr.
