Hailey Bieber responds to years of being 'picked apart' in the public eye: 'My words get twisted'

Hailey Bieber is tired of being "picked apart".

The 29-year-old seems to have it all together, with an enviable career, a seven-year marriage to Justin Bieber, 32, and their 20-month-old son Jack Blues Bieber.

But with all of that fame and success has come a side effect that makes the beauty mogul "really uncomfortable".Hailey Bieber attends the 2026 Met Gala celebrating

"Being in this position, in general, there's a lot of judgment," Hailey told Time in an interview to mark her skincare brand Rhode being named one of Time100's Most Influential Companies of 2026.

"When you're trying to figure out who you are on such a big scale and in front of so many different people, it feels really restricting to make really normal mistakes or, like, do the wrong thing or say the wrong thing."

She said speaking to media made her nervous, "because I find that my words get twisted or things get totally misconstrued".

She wanted to be able to be completely herself, but had found that was not accepted in the past.

"It just does feel hard sometimes having every single thing be looked at and picked apart. People create a story for you and it can feel really uncomfortable and bizarre sometimes because I'm like, it's just not even real," she said.

Hailey's father is actor Stephen Baldwin, so she has grown up around the spotlight, but has faced consistent public scrutiny since she began modelling as a teenager.

Hailey knows that oftentimes, there is no reasoning with haters – but that does not ease her feelings.

"When people have made up their mind about something and about you, they don't care what the truth is. They just enjoy believing what they believe," she said.Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin announced their engagement in July 2018.

While she does like to defend herself, "there's only so much you can do and say to the point where you have to just kind of be like, 'I have to live my life and continue to move forward'."

Hailey went on to say she felt most understood by her husband.

Justin and Hailey married in 2018 following a whirlwind engagement, after they made their on-again, off-again romance public in January 2016.

In May 2024, they revealed Hailey was pregnant with their first child, with the announcement shoot also doubling as their vow renewal.

They welcomed son Jack in August the same year.
