Marc Anthony finally breaks silence over role in the Beckham family feud: 'Extremely unfortunate'

After being publicly named in Brooklyn Beckham's scathing statement about the rest of his family, Marc Anthony has finally spoken out.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 57-year-old shared his stance on the drama after he made way for Victoria Beckham to take the first dance with her son Brooklyn at his wedding, when it was meant to be with his new wife Nicola Peltz.

Making clear he was staying neutral, Anthony said: "I have nothing to say about what's happening with the family.

"They're a wonderful, wonderful family. I've known them since before the kids were born. I'm godfather to Cruz. I'm really close to the family."

In regard to the Beckham's feud, which recently came to a head with Brooklyn's six-page statement, Anthony said, "It's extremely unfortunate how it's playing out but [how it's playing out] is hardly the truth."

Brooklyn made sure to name Anthony in his scathing statement released a month ago.

"My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song," Brooklyn wrote on Instagram.

"In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife, but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.

"She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.

"I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life."

Their wedding DJ, Fat Tony, later shed light on the situation in a tell-all interview on This Morning.

He said it was Marc Anthony who called the mother-of-the-groom to the stage for the dance and but "there was no slut dropping, there was no black PVC catsuit, there was no Spice Girl action" – instead, the DJ says, it was the moment Anthony told Brooklyn to "put your hands on you mother's hips".Brooklyn Beckham, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham

"Marc Anthony was performing and he called Brooklyn onto the stage," he told This Morning co-hosts Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond.

"Everyone then expected Nicola to go up and do the first dance."

He said Anthony asked for "the most beautiful woman in the room" to also come up on stage – but instead of it being a reference to the bride, the DJ said Victoria's name.

"Of course at that point Brooklyn's like suddenly, literally devastated, because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife," he said.

"Then Nicola leaves the room crying her eyes out, Brooklyn's stuck there on stage, and then they do this dance.

"That whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room."

The 60-year-old said the Beckhams were "a dancey, close-knit family" and says Victoria and Brooklyn did as instructed by Anthony in an effort to make the situation less awkward.
