Moment Blue Ivy, 14, refuses one repeated request from dad Jay-Z on the Met Gala red carpet

Beyoncé and Jay-Z's oldest daughter Blue Ivy made quite the statement during her Met Gala debut yesterday by refusing one simple request.

The 14-year-old, who was one of the last to arrive on the 2026 red carpet, stunned in white bubble Balenciaga gown paired with dark sunglasses she refused to take off.

A video moment shows the teen ignoring two assistants and her father's repeated requests to remove the shades as the famed family posed for photos.

In the video, Blue Ivy poses with mum Beyoncé, 44, and Jay-Z, 56, who first signals to her to remove her shades in front of a crowd of onlookers. But his request is ignored.

Crowded by shouting paparazzi, two assistants then rush in, gesturing to the teen to take off her sunglasses, but Blue Ivy keeps them firmly in place.

Blue Ivy's presence alone is an exception to one strict Met Gala rule set by Vogue editor Anna Wintour that no one under the age of 18 can attend the glamorous event.

But it seems when your mum is Beyoncé, and a co-chair for the 2026 Met Gala, the rules can be bent.

In 2018, event organisers implemented the rule attendees must be over 18 years old, deeming the event inappropriate for minors, despite stars such as Elle Fanning, Hailee Steinfeld and Willow Smith having attended previous galas in their early teens.

This year appears to be the first since the rule was implemented that an exception has been made.Beyoncé brings daughter Blue Ivy to the Met Gala

Not just for Beyoncé, but also for fellow co-chair Nicole Kidman, who brought her 17-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman, as her date.

"It feels surreal because my daughter's here," Beyoncé told Vogue on the red carpet.

"It's incredible to be able to share it with her."

This is the first Met Gala Beyoncé has attended in a decade, last appearing on the carpet back in 2016.

The music powerhouse wore a glittering diamond-encrusted gown in the shape of a skeleton by Olivier Rousteing.
