Why there was no Met Gala reunion for Brooklyn Beckham and brother Romeo

There were reports that Brooklyn Beckham was set to come face-to-face with his brother Romeo Beckham at the 2026 Met Gala – but it never happened. 

Now it's been revealed that while the 23-year-old made his debut at fashion's night of nights earlier this week, after being invited by Burberry, his older brother wasn't on the guest list. 

Brooklyn, 27, and wife Nicola Peltz Beckham, 31, have previously attended, but Anna Wintour appears to have sided with his famous parents amid their ongoing feud.

The eldest Beckham child blew up his relationship with Victoria and Sir David Beckham when he released a blistering six-page statement in January. 

But a source close to Wintour has spoken about her loyalty, and her close friendship with the fashion designer. 

"She's been close friends with the Beckhams for years … she's the first one in the door at Victoria's shows. And while it was rumoured Brooklyn and Nicola were invited last year, that never happened. Anna protects her friends," the source told Page Six.  

The couple have attended the Met Gala in 2021, 2022 and 2023, while he went solo in 2024, but this year they were absent from the coveted event.

Page Six reports that Wintour has allegedly frozen out Brooklyn and Nicola, appearing to make a stance on where she sides on the ongoing feud. 

Wintour is a long-time friend with David and Victoria, and even flew to London in 2023 to show her support at the premiere of David's Netflix series Beckham. 

The fashion icon is now working with the documentary's director, Fisher Stevens, after meeting him through the Beckhams, according to the outlet.

Rumours of tensions between Brooklyn and his parents started last May when he and Nicola skipped David's milestone 50th celebrations.

As the months went on, more rumours pointed to a feud, but it all reached boiling point in January with his scathing social media takedown. 

In the months since Brooklyn and Nicola have stayed relatively quiet, but Victoria and David have both spoken out publicly and made efforts to extend an olive branch to their eldest son. 

Most recently the fashion designer made an appearance on Emma Grede's Aspire podcast and inadvertently hit back at Brooklyn's claim that she had "controlled narratives" about him and the family his "whole life."

When talking about raising her children in the spotlight, Victoria told Grede her children "had a very different upbringing" from her and David.

"I've always wanted to be the best mum I could be and look after the kids, but I also feel that it's been part of my job to really help them fulfil their full potential and for them to recognise what their sense of purpose is," she said.

"Anything that I could do to support [them], to encourage, and to help ... that's my job as his mum.

"It's never about being pushy or forcing. It's being there to support."
