"They feel very blessed."
The baby will be due in the American autumn, which will be spring in Australia.
It is not clear when Plaza and Abbott began dating, but the pair have collaborated over the years on projects such as the 2023-2024 off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, and were co-stars in the 2020 comedy-thriller Black Bear.

Abbott is known for his roles in TV series Girls and movies including Poor Things and The Testament of Ann Lee.
The Parks and Recreation actress' husband, Baena, died in January 2025 by suicide. He was 47 years old at the time of his death.
Baena, a successful screenwriter and director known for works including Life After Beth and The Little Hours, married Plaza in 2021.
The pair had separated four months before his death.
The couple began dating in 2011 and worked together on projects including Spin Me Around. They got married while quarantining together amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The couple tied the knot on a whim, in tie-dyed pyjamas to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Days after his death, the actress shared a joint statement with the Baena and Stern family, which described his death as an "unimaginable tragedy".
"This is an unimaginable tragedy," the statement began.
"We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time."

Seven months later, she opened up about her grief with her Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler on the latter's podcast, Good Hang.
"On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?" Poehler asked Plaza.
"Right in this very very present moment, I feel happy to be with you," she replied.
"Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning. I think I'm okay, but it's like a daily struggle, obviously."
The White Lotus star compared her grief to the movie Gorge, which features two snipers guarding a gorge without knowing what is inside.
"That's what my grief feels like or what grief could be like," she said.
"At all times, there's, like, a giant ocean of just awfulness that's just right there and I can see it.
"Sometimes I just want to dive into it and be in it, and sometimes I look at it and sometimes I just try to get away from it, but it's always there."
