Jane Fonda questions why Barbra Streisand led Robert Redford tribute: 'I have more to say'
It was one of the most touching tributes in Oscars history.
Barbra Streisand's moving segment on Robert Redford during the always controversial In Memorium segment of the award show moved many to tears after she sang a few lines from The Way We Were.
But while most loved her tribute to Redford, who died in September 2025 at the age of 89, it seems Jane Fonda wasn't a fan.

The famously outspoken Fonda, 88, was at one of the famed Oscars after parties when she addressed Streisand's tribute with Entertainment Tonight.
"I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford?" Fonda quipped.
"[She] only made one movie with him, I made four! I have more to say."

While it appeared Fonda was joking, she had a point.
The largely reclusive Streisand only made one film with Redford; the 1973 romantic drama, The Way We Were.
Streisand also sang the movie's theme song of the same name, which won the Oscar for best original song in 1974.
It was during the Oscars segment that she recalled how Redford ended up playing one of his most famous roles, Hubbell Gardiner.
She recalled that after reading the script, she could only imagine one man for the part; Redford.
"[But] he turned it down because he said the character had no backbone, he doesn't stand for anything. And he was right," she said.
"So many drafts later, Bob finally agreed to do it
"He was a brilliant, subtle actor. And we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in the scene."
Of course, the film went on to become a huge hit, and is still referenced in pop culture today.
The two co-stars remained friends for the rest of Redford's life, even though he had the annoying habit of calling her Babs, which she eventually embraced.
She said that their last contact was a note she sent him, which she signed with the nickname.
Meanwhile, Fonda and Redford were also close friends for six decades, having appeared in four films together; Tall Story (1960), The Chase (1966), Barefoot in the Park (1967), and Our Souls at Night (2017).

The two bonded over their political and environmental views.
After his death, Fonda issued a statement saying, "It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone.
"I can't stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for."
Politics was also something Redford and Streisand had in common, even if they were opposites in other ways.
She too paid tribute to the star on Instagram after his death.
"Every day on the set of The Way We Were was exciting, intense and pure joy," she said.
"We were such opposites: he was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them!
"Yes, we kept trying to find out more about each other, just like the characters in the movie. Bob was charismatic, intelligent, intense, always interesting – and one of the finest actors ever."
This year's Oscars In Memoriam segment saw some longer tributes to some of Hollywood's best known stars, including Rob Reiner and Diane Keaton, however it failed to mention actors Eric Dane and James Van Der Beek.
